Ketchikan shipyard gets more land

Posted: Monday, October 04, 2010

KETCHIKAN - The Ketchikan shipyard has grown by nine acres.

A land transfer completed Friday will allow for a planned expansion of the yard.

Gov. Sean Parnell attended an afternoon ceremony to mark the shift of ownership from the state Department of Transportation to the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority.

The authority owns the shipyard operated by Alaska Ship and Drydock.

The authority and the shipyard are working on a $77-million expansion project that will allow work to be done on several vessels simultaneously at two dry-docks and a land-based work berth.
