Congressman Don Young and Sen. Frank Murkowski deserve congratulations from all Alaskans for their leadership in proposing and advancing the Conservation and Reinvestment Act, pending in Congress. This legislation would take a steady stream of revenue generated by resource development to fund projects like Marine Park in Juneau as well as a host of other valuable projects and activities throughout our nation.
Alaska, as a state where much resource development activity takes place, would receive a particularly generous allocation of funding under the Conservation and Reinvestment Act. Long-delayed construction of trails, nature centers and urban parks would take place under the measure advanced by Young and Murkowski.
Unfortunately, Murkowski and Young face opposition from extreme property rights organizations who fear the Conservation and Reinvestment Act and who are stalling passage of the bill during the closing days of this Congress. Call or write our congressman and Sen. Murkowski. Thank them for showing leadership on this issue and ask what you can do to help pass this measure that will greatly benefit our state.
