FAIRBANKS - Soldiers completing a year-long mission northeast of Baghdad will be welcomed back next week at a redeployment ceremony in Fairbanks.
The event at the Carlson Center is set for Thursday at 1 p.m. It will feature speakers including Gov. Sean Parnell; Maj. Gen. William J. Troy, the commanding general of U.S. Army Alaska; and Col. Burt Thompson, commander of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry.
Soldiers with the 1-25th focused on counter-insurgency operations and rebuilding infrastructure during their mission. Eight Stryker soldiers died during the recent mission, including three from non-combat related incidents.
