Plan for channelside

Posted: Friday, October 06, 2000

After reading about the waterfront development plan, I am concerned that we've limited our thinking too quickly in describing this pedestrian plaza and commercial space.

What will happen to the tidal ponds where herons fish, the mussel beds used by ravens, crows and gulls, and the quiet water in which scoters and ducks float?

Planning for the channelside from the SeaDrome docks to Gold Creek offers us a chance to let folks walk the shore; to slow the cars on Egan Drive; establish a public dock (for skiffs, dories, kayaks, and sailboats); and honor the biological cycles currently active there.
