ANCHORAGE - A man is missing and another is in critical condition after an early morning fire gutted an abandoned Spenard building that once housed an escort service and massage parlor.
A caller to emergency dispatchers reported the fire in the structure that formerly housed the Alaska Trapline dating and escort service at around 6:30 a.m. Saturday, about two hours after an Anchorage police officer broke up a loud argument among three men standing in front of the building.
With the building engulfed in flames, firefighters broke down a locked door and found Shawn Stephan, 33, on the floor behind it, said Tom Kempton, Anchorage Fire Department spokesman. Stephan was in critical condition Saturday night at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
Stephan was one of the three men arguing in front of the building. After the fire, police located and interviewed a second man involved.
The third man, Christopher Ruiz, 31, is still missing, and authorities hope to hear from him.
