Free adult education instruction offered

The Juneau Adult Education Center is pleased to announce free adult education instruction, GED preparation and English as a Second Language classes at St. Vincent de Paul in the valley.

SERRC's Valley Adult Education Center is open Monday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Mental Illness Awareness Week

Mental Illness Awareness Week runs from Oct. 3 to 9.

The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill encourages you to join your local affiliate-NAMI Juneau and the Polaris House in activities going on this week. This year we offer the opportunity to visit with Don Looney, an artist from Portland, Ore., who works with the production company, In A Different Light.

On Oct. 6 and 8, 5-7 p.m., at Polaris House, 1705 Anka St., there will be a dialogue with Don about self-discovery, telling your success story and performance art. Open house and buffet dinner both nights.

On Oct. 7, 2 p.m., 310 2nd St. upstairs, Green House/JAMHI hosts a public presentation of In Our Own Voice, a multimedia public education program, which Don appears in.
