Final election count shows no changes

JUNEAU A final count of ballots in Tuesday's city election showed no changes in the outcome of the races.

Areawide Assembly incumbent Jim Powell's lead over opponent Chuck Collins grew to 354 votes in Friday's final count. The results were the closest of the three Assembly races. Powell had 3,356 votes; Collins had 3,002.

"I'm very happy to see the final results. It's time continue the work, continue on," Powell said after the count.

While the results are still unofficial, voter turnout grew to 28 percent when election workers added 303 absentee ballots and 511 questioned ballots into the total. About 6,700 Juneau residents voted in the election.

In the District 1 Assembly race, Jeannie Johnson garnered 3,667 votes and Tony Reiger had 2,274. In the District 2 race, Randy Wanamaker had 2,874 votes, Clancy DeSmet had 1,969, and Dixie Hood had 1,571.
