Gov't approval doesn't excuse racism

Letter to the editor

Posted: Friday, October 07, 2005

Shane Wirtz hit the nail on the head (letters to the editor, Oct. 4). If it smells, acts and looks racist, then guess what? Just because the government in its infinite wisdom chooses to create legislation giving special rights, treatment and protection to one group over another does not make it right. Just because the government supports and encourages racism does not make it right.

Racism is still racism whether you wrap it in a flag and cover it with whip cream or not, and that goes for any race that is separated out for special treatment whether good or bad. Maybe the Declaration of Independence has been forgotten. It says all men are created equal. Just because the government said men didn't stop women from considering their cause. Or as Mr. Wirtz says, racism is as racism does.
