Alaska's new tourist promotion, huge billboards in Seattle, Los Angeles and Minneapolis, proclaiming "Alaska B4UDIE," is without doubt the tackiest promotion I've ever seen the state endorse.
As the first director of the now-defunct Alaska Tourism Marketing Council, I can tell you that such a proposal would never have made it through the council's expert marketing committee. No doubt the three large-city markets were selected by the cruise industry, and the message appears aimed at the near-dead. The state should be ashamed of the message.
Somebody do something.
