Juneau resident Jim Musser, 51, died Sept. 28, 2005, surrounded by his family at his home.

He was born in Norman, Okla., and grew up in Seattle. He worked as a farmer on orchards in eastern Washington, in construction, at a sawmill, as a cement plant operator and as a truck driver in Wrangell.

He went back to school and was certified as a chemical dependency counselor. He worked in Seattle with the Juvenile Corrections Facilities. He created a program, "Interns in Action," which helped kids coming out of the correction facilities to be successful in the education and work environments. He moved with his family in the fall of 1998 to Juneau.

In Juneau, he worked for Alaska Solutions Inc. doing respite care, collaborating with local agencies such as Hope Community Resources and Juneau Youth Services. His work included listening and talking to those in need of support.

His friends and family members said that his "love of people and kids of all ages was shown throughout the community through his dedication of working with people to advocate with them to get their needs and wants met."

He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing and being with his family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Terra, and his mother, Irene.

He is survived by his wife, Brenna Musser, and his five children, Jim Jr., Isaac, Celeste, Julia and Carmen.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Oct. 8 at Eaglecrest Lodge.
