Community development director named

JUNEAU -- City Manager Dave Palmer today announced Dale Pernula of Moscow, Idaho, will be Juneau's new Community Development Department director.

After a series of interviews, resume checks and other hiring exercises, the city manager and assistant city manager chose Pernula from four finalists for the position.

"Dale has the combination of professional talent, education, skills, abilities, and experience coupled with compatible personality and enthusiasm about Juneau and CBJ government," Palmer said .

The Community Development Department regulates local development and provides staff to the Juneau Planning Commission.

Pernula has served as community development director in Moscow since 1987. He also worked as a planner in Moscow and in Sheridan County, Wyo. He has a master's degree in geography from the University of Wyoming.

Palmer said Pernula's experiences in Moscow were "adaptable to Juneau's issues." Pernula begins work Nov. 12.
