After each JDHS cross-country meet, the team and coaches make it a point to sit in a circle and share what we call "appreciations." That is, we take the time to tell one another why we care about each other. The student's comments are varied and might be, "I appreciate Wesley for supporting me when I race," or "I appreciate Jordan for helping me with my homework on the ferry trip home."
This "appreciation time" time injects the team with a sense of respect for one another, our home, and the unique opportunity we have to train, travel, play, and race together.
The outstanding achievements of our cross-country athletes and teams this season, culminating in the boys first-ever state cross-country title, now warrant our "appreciation" of this community.
We'd like to thank all of the amazing teachers, parents and volunteers who helped at the rainy regional meet. We're grateful to Southeast Road Runners (SERR) for use of your equipment and your ongoing financial boost. We thank JDHS for administrating our sport, and Andrew Krueger and the Empire for your motivating coverage of the teams' hard work. We appreciate all the parents for encouraging their kids throughout the season, and we're lucky to have SERR and all the athletes in this town who, just by training through rain, snow or shine, continue to inspire the students with their love of running, setting goals, exploring trails, and sharing healthy adventures with friends.
Indeed, our state and regional titles and other successes are related to the depth of support and passion demonstrated by this community. Congratulations, and we appreciate you!
See you on the Trail.
