Medicare Drug Benefit to be discussed
Diabetes Senior Support Group is sponsoring a speaker and discussion on the Medicare Drug Benefit from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11 at the Day Room in the Juneau Senior Center at 12th Street and Egan Drive.
Anyone interested in the Medicare Drug Benefit is welcome. The event is sponsored by Bartlett Regional Hospital and the American Diabetes Association, in partnership with the state Department of Health and Social Services Juneau Public Health Center. Details: 796-8691, 465-3353.
Festival of Seafood set for Saturday
KTOO-FM's Festival of Seafood will be held Saturday, Oct. 9, at Centennial Hall. The event will feature not only a selection of halibut, salmon, shrimp, salads and Alaskan Oatmeal Stout gingerbread, but will also include a tutored beer tasting.
The dinner, held in conjunction with Taku Smokeries, the Alaskan Brewing Company, the Silverbow Inn and the Goldbelt Hotel, will be served from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
The beer tasting, hosted by the Alaska Brewing Company, begins at 4 p.m.
Tickets for the beer tasting are $10, and dinner tickets are available for $20 and can be purchased at the door or in advance at KTOO.

Volunteers hunter instructors wanted
Although the Alaska Department of Fish and Game oversees the hunter education program in Alaska, volunteer instructors partially or wholly teach nearly all of the courses. These are people like you, who live in the community and want to get involved in this important program.
So, are you interested in teaching people (especially children) about how to be safer hunters? Now is your chance to become a hunter education instructor.

When: 7 p.m-10 p.m., Oct. 22; 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Oct. 23
All persons interested in this course need to have completed a background check with the Alaska State Troopers before the start of the class. There is a $20 (cash or check) fee for the background check that will be reimbursed. They can be completed from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, at 2760 Sherwood Lane or 450 Whittier St. Please bring two forms of identification, including one with a picture.
