Safety training offered for Juneau fisherman

JUNEAU - The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association will offer a free 10-hour fishing vessel safety and drill conductor course from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Bill Ray Center, 1108 F St.

This course meets the training requirements for commercial fishing vessels. It is available to commercial fishermen and is funded by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Participants will practice using emergency equipment in the water and on a vessel. This includes PFDs, life rafts, immersion suits, EPIRBs, fire extinguishers and emergency procedures like man overboard, abandon ship, fire fighting and flooding control.
