Four Juneau-Douglas High School volleyball teams will head to Sitka on Friday and Saturday for the 2003 Small Schools Tournament.
In addition to the four Juneau squads and three teams from host Sitka, the tournament will include Skagway, Hoonah, Kake, Craig, Klawock, Metlakatla, Thorne Bay and two teams from Mount Edgecumbe.
Teams will participate in round-robin pool play on Friday and again on Saturday morning before being seeded for the second round of pool play.
The two seniors on Juneau's varsity squad - Julie Heard and Karla Dunivin - will be taking the SAT exam this weekend and will not travel to the tournament. But many of the other players on the Crimson Bears' young varsity squad will participate to gain more playing experience.
Next week, the Crimson Bears will head north on an Anchorage swing. They will play at Bartlett on Oct. 15, at East Anchorage on Oct. 16, and at the Service-Dimond Tournament on Oct. 17-18.
