JUNEAU - The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium Board of Directors elected Victoria Demmert of Yakutat as its new chairwoman during the September SEARHC Board meeting in Juneau.
In addition to her spot on the SEARHC Board, Demmert currently serves as president of the Yakutat Tlingít Tribe.
She also has worked as the office manager and co-owner of Ravens Table LLC (a seafood processing and retail outlet), the general manager and planner for Yakutat Tlingít Tribe, the acting health director for the YTT/Yakutat Community Health Center, a magistrate in the Alaska Court System, and the office manager and assistant to the president for Yak-Tat Kwáan Inc.
Over the years Demmert has been involved in community activities in Yakutat. She was mayor of Yakutat from 2002-04, spent 10 years as president of the Yakutat City School Board (15 years on the board), and five years as a director on the executive board of the Alaska Association of School Boards, among other responsibilities.
Demmert, a grandmother of eight, replaces Jan Hill of Haines as the chair of the SEARHC Board. Hill remains on the board, and Demmert said she plans to tap Hill's expertise to provide continuity of leadership.
