ANCHORAGE - State Troopers arrested 10 people following a break-in at the village store in Selawik.
Troopers say an undisclosed amount of money was taken Friday night or Saturday morning.
The arrests followed reports that some of the suspects were flashing cash around the village of 850 residents. In a statement, Troopers said concerned residents helped them track down and recover much of the money.
Alcohol use factored into the burglary, the authorities said. Selawik is a dry village, and residents voted to keep it that way Tuesday.
Charged with second-degree theft are Vanessa Mitchell, 27; Daniel "Eric" Davis, 29; Loren Smith, 30; Calvin Clark, 32; and Douglas Mitchell, 20. All are Selawik residents.
Charged with third-degree theft are Selawik residents Theodore Berry, 43; Frederick "Marvin" Berry, 47; and Wesley Mitchell, 57. Mitchell was also allegedly found to be manufacturing and selling home-brew out of his home and was charged with bootlegging.
Troopers said John Mitchell Jr., 29, of Selawik; and Clifford Griest, 28, of Kotzebue were charged with sixth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance - marijuana. Mitchell also was charged with disorderly conduct, troopers said.
All the suspects were taken to jail in Kotzebue.
