Five obtain certified nurses assistant state certification

JUNEAU - Cornerstone Home Health is pleased to announce the completion of the first Personal Care Attendant to Certified Nurses Assistant bridge program by the University of Alaska Southeast in a rural community.

This UAS distance-delivered class, offered in Haines, enabled five students - Jeanette Baker, Krystal Lloyd, Debra Kemp, Patty Horton and Sandra Weiss - to obtain their certified nurses assistant state certification.

Normally to attend this class a person would have to leave the community for up to three months and stay in Juneau, Sitka, Fairbanks or Anchorage. The successful completion of this Haines pilot project class will lead the way for other classes to be planned in rural communities statewide.

A special thanks to registered nurse Rebecca Malone for all her hard work as their instructor, to Diane Mille, of UAS, and to the Haines SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium clinic whose participation made the class possible.
