Cote appointed to veterans council

JUNEAU - Gov. Sarah Palin recently appointed David D. Cote Jr. of Juneau to the Alaska Veterans Advisory Council.

The 13-member council advises the governor, the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and other state departments on matters concerning veterans, their dependents and their survivors, including identifying veterans' needs and making recommendations on how to provide for them.

Cote is acting director of the Division of Alaska Pioneer Homes. He has 24 years of active and reserve service in the U.S. Coast Guard.

In his regular job with Pioneer Homes, he worked as liaison with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in recertifying the Alaska Veterans and Pioneers in Palmer after its initial accreditation as a veterans' home in 2007.

Cote earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Northeastern University in Boston, and has worked for the state in social services and accounting positions.

Joining Cote as new appointees on the board are Mayfield Evans and Pamela Beale, both of Anchorage.
