Adak telephone users to get refund
ANCHORAGE - Residents of Adak will enjoy a 57 percent reduction in what had been an approximately $100 a month local telephone rate. They also will be refunded a portion of the rates paid so far this year.
The settlement between the state of Alaska and the Adak Telephone Utility - known as AdakTel - was announced by the state Attorney General's office Wednesday.
The agreement was approved by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska.
AdakTel at first said the rate reduction was too high and was granted a temporary rate reduction of 23 percent at the end of last year. With the recent ruling upholding the 57 percent reduction, the company will refund a total of $57,000 through a credit in the November bills.
