Letter: Cap hurts Juneau

Posted: Wednesday, October 11, 2000

The city of Anchorage has no city sales tax. They rely on property taxes and special appropriations from the legislature to meet their city budgetary needs. If they get the property tax cap established, that will mean as Anchorage grows, so will its dependence on the legislature to make their budgetary ends meet. This can only continue to subtract from funding for important projects around the remainder of the state. I say vote NO on the tax cap because it only helps Anchorage and hurts the rest of us.
