Garbage and bears

Posted: Friday, October 11, 2002

Our class has concerns about garbage and bears. Once a wild bear eats garbage from people they are never the same. All people should know that bears and garbage don't mix.

Here are some ideas that will help save our bears: Buy strong garbage cans that lock; keep garbage cans in bear-proof sheds or garages; install metal lids and locks on all Dumpsters; Take garbage out only just before the garbage truck arrives; if you use compost, keep it in a bear-proof container; kids, please remind parents to keep areas clean; kids, please remind parents to do all of the above.

We hope you put our ideas into action. Remember, the health of Juneau's bears depends on you!
