I am gravely disappointed in the votes of Rep. Young, Sen. Murkowski, and Sen. Stevens, passing the resolution that authorizes the use of force in Iraq.
Not only have we not sufficiently identified an actual threat in Iraq, we're risking our good name in the international community as well as setting dangerous precedents for countries like India and Pakistan, which have nuclear weapons. A war with Iraq could cost billions of dollars each day.
I am deeply saddened at the number of innocent Iraqi people who will die by our hands in the coming months and by the thousands that have already died from our raids over the last 12 years.
I am further frustrated that, after more than 1,000 Juneau citizens signed a statement opposing a war in Iraq, none of our legislators agreed to listen to our concerns via teleconference.
We try to do our job as good American citizens, speaking out for our convictions, but if we are not even heard by our own senators and representatives, what then?
Here in Juneau, I will continue to do what I believe is right, and continue to speak out against a war in Iraq.
