Former Juneau resident John Olsen died July 18, 2002, while vacationing in Denali National Park.
He arrived in Juneau in 1950 while serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. From 1950-67 he served many tours of duty in Juneau, as well as one on Annette Island. He was a member of the Juneau Elk's Lodge, where he was known for his bowling, and frequently was seen at the Triangle Bar playing cards.
He is survived by his daughters, Judy Holdenried of Union, Mo., and Barbara Mizrahi-Shalom of San Jose, Calif., seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
