ANCHORAGE - An Anchorage health center that serves uninsured and underinsured patients will receive an $8 million federal grant to help pay for a new building.
The Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center will receive money set aside for community health centers in the federal health care reform act.
The east Anchorage center operates one of the state's largest primary care and dental practices, with more than 12,000 patients. A new $28 million facility is planned near International Airport Road and C Street to double its capacity.
Center executive director Joan Fisher tells the Anchorage Daily News the money is being raised through a combination of state, federal and private sources.
She says that with the most recent grant, the center has about $2.3 million left to raise.
