Local author, illustrator to sign new book

Juneau - Artist Jim Fowler and writer Susi Gregg Fowler will sign copies of their new book, "Albertina, The Animals and Me," from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Hearthside Books in the Nugget Mall.

The Juneau couple has collaborated on a number of children's books. The new book is a sequel to "Albertina the Practically Perfect." It follows the further adventures of Albertina and Molly, two young friends scheming to get pets. The rowdy critters in the book for young readers are modeled after real characters.

"All the pets named in the book lived in the Fowler household," said Susi Fowler.

The book-signing coincides with the Gastineau Humane Society's pet day at the Nugget Mall, said Susan Hickey of Hearthside Books.

A beer garden area will be set up for participants over 21. Admission is $15, $7 for UAS students, and free for kids under 10.
