Mr. Briggs' guest column (Empire My Turn, Oct. 11) is misleading and so are his examples of some extraordinary sailings of the Alaska Marine Highway System.
All his examples of extraordinary sailings were for Alaska citizens ... not out-of-state bigwigs. Notice those extraordinary sailings were extra port calls, not cross-gulf transits.
The Tustamena sailings to and from Juneau for the legislators have been going on for years and are money losers but at least Alaska citizens can sail on those crossings.
If the governor wants to sail around, he should buy his own boat. Maybe his attorney general could give him some advice on how to afford it.
