Juneau's Midnight Suns Under-12 baseball team captured second place overall during the Shark Shootout tournament over the Labor Day weekened in Des Moines, Wash.
The Suns received a solid two innings of pitching from Josh Magnuson and two terrific catches from Miles Bedford in right field in the title game against the host Des Moines Nationals.
The Nationals, however, proved too strong and took the game 13-1.
The Midnight Suns made their way to the championship game by compiling a 2-1 record in pool play.
Lance Ibesate led the way in an 8-0 win over the Olympia Athletics.
Brendan Daugherty followed up by earning the pitching victory in a 7-3 win over the Seattle Rainers.
The Suns also dropped a 6-2 contest to Des Moines in pool play.
Ibesate, Colin Gozelski and James San Miguel all earned most valuable player honors after pool play competition.
The Suns baseball club will hold its membership meeting at 6 p.m., Oct. 19 at the Riverbend Gym. All returning and new players, along with parents, must attned. Players must be between 11-to-14 years old by Aug. 1, 2005, to play.
