Through interviews with witnesses at the bank and the apartment complex, the Juneau Police Department
were able to identify the suspect as being a 32-year old local resident, Neil Wayne Haapala.
Officers later received information that Haapala had rented a room at The Airport Travel Lodge.
As officers approached the hotel room rented by the suspect, he sighted the officers and attempted
to flee. A short foot pursuit ensued before he was apprehended and detained. Haapala was arrested and charged
with Robbery in the First Degree; a Class A Felony, and Theft in the Second Degree; a class C Felony.
He was subsequntly taken to and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.
