Muñoz's priorities deserve support

Cathy Muñoz has two children, one in high school and one that will begin elementary school in three years.

As the mother of two children myself, family and education are of great importance to me and to the many friends I've had discussions with. Muñoz knows we must take care of our teachers and supports returning our new Teachers Retirement System employees to a defined benefit retirement system.

One of Muñoz's top priorities is to fully fund education, which will provide a sound and challenging curriculum for our students. She would like to direct more funding to the classrooms for books and supplies.

Muñoz supports extracurricular activities to keep our students engaged in their school. She supports the reinstatement of the Alaska Student Loan Program and the forgiveness provision which encourages students to return to Alaska.

She is concerned with the dropout rate not only here in Juneau, but in our great state as a whole and is in favor of extending the compulsory attendance age.

Muñoz graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School, as did her husband, and she knows the challenges we face. She has been endorsed by the Juneau Education Association, and with her experience on the Juneau Assembly, her passion and her commitment to our youth, she is my choice for state House. She will work well with our legislators, from both sides of the aisle, who share her dedication and commitment to our youth.

I am proud to call her my friend, and you will be proud to call her your representative. I would encourage your readers to vote for Muñoz for state House on Nov. 4.
