2002 summer ferry reservations open Monday

JUNEAU -- The state ferry system will start taking reservations for summer 2002 on Monday, one of the earliest openings for bookings, officials said.

"Opening reservations early for both summer and the fall-winter-spring schedule that precedes it is something we've been aiming for since last year," said Capt. George Capacci, general manager of the Alaska Marine Highway System.

Nine vessels will serve a total of 34 ports. The summer schedule is available on the Web at http://www.alaska.gov/ferry. To make reservations or get copies of the schedule, visit the Web site or call 1-800 642-0066, or 465-3941 in Juneau.
