Builders' association rewards students with job site tour

The Southeast Alaska Building Industry Association and the organization's parent office of the National Association of Home Builders are treating local high school students today to visits at Juneau construction sites.

A Juneau-Douglas High School student chapter of the association caught the national office's attention earlier this year when it placed first in an international design competition held in Florida earlier this year.

Students will visit two locations in Juneau where affordable housing is being built. They also will participate, possibly by installing siding or dry wall, said the association's executive officer Jill Herrick.

Representatives from the national office will visit Juneau for the trip.

Wells Fargo branch remodel complete

Wells Fargo near the Nugget Mall reopened last month with renovations and expansions.

The teller line was moved back a few feet to allow expansion to the lobby where more services, such as a home mortgage desk, are now located, according to bank officials. The remodel also includes a three-lane drive-up.

The bank now has two business bankers, a home mortgage representative and three personal bankers.

Wells Fargo has 1,100 Alaska employees serving customers at 70 banking, mortgage, consumer lending, insurance and investment offices, plus 120 automated teller machines statewide.

Businesses can pay unemployment insurance tax online

Alaska employers can now pay their unemployment insurance tax online through the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development's service TaxWeb.

Businesses can compile, calculate, submit quarterly contribution reports and pay through an electronic funds transfer. New businesses can register with the department for the service.

The department claims TaxWeb is secure with the use of access codes and passwords.

The unemployment insurance tax program is administered through the department's employment security division.
