Voters should decide Juneau sea walk

The Juneau Empire headline of Oct. 13 stated: "City to foot 80 percent of sea-walk tab."

Where the word "city" is used, I'm sure that means "taxpayers," and 80 percent of how much?

The Juneau voters recently rejected two major projects: the airport improvements and a recreation center, both of which were far more beneficial to local residents than the proposed sea walk.

If the sea walk is that important or necessary to accommodate tourists, let them pay for it. Or, all the shopkeepers on lower Franklin Street and Front Street that cater to tourists could step up and pay the entire cost.

In any event, the Juneau voters should have a voice in a project of this magnitude.
