• Adult Ordway Basketball Team registration - Juneau Parks and Recreation will register teams at 5 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Assembly Chambers. Late registration will be taken 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Parks and Rec Office. League play begins Nov. 9 and will run through the first week of February. Saturday, Oct. 18

• Juneau Ski Club open house celebration - Join the Juneau Ski Club at its season kick-off party at 5-7 p.m. Oct. 18 at Eaglecrest Lodge. The event will feature dinner, door prizes, silent auction and fun with club members, alumni, prospective Mitey Mites, Devo or Junior ski racers and all supporters of skiing in Juneau. • Basketball officials meetings - The Juneau-Douglas Officials Association will hold basketball officials meetings 6:30-8 p.m. on Thursdays from Oct. 23 to Nov. 6 in Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School Room C109. Interested referees for the Adult Ordway City League or high school officiating should attend every Thursday. • Veterans Day 8K Race - Southeast Roadrunners presents its last race of the year at 10 a.m. Nov. 8 at Brotherhood Bridge Trail parking lot. It is an out and back course on the paved trail with the turn around on River Road. Entry forms available at both locations of JRC The Alaska Club, Pavitt's Fitness and Nugget Alaskan Outfitters. • Adult soccer - The Capital City Soccer League is offering adult soccer at the Dimond Park Fieldhouse. Classic Women League for beginning players is from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday nights. Cost is $35. Games played October-December. Masters Co-ed League for men over 30 and skilled women players is 7:30-9 p.m. Friday nights. Cost is $35. Games played October-December. • Indoor soccer coaches needed - Juneau Parks & Recreation is in need of volunteer coaches for the upcoming youth season, which runs Oct. 4 through Dec. 6. If you are knowledgeable in the game of soccer and enjoy working with youth, consider volunteering. There is a need for coaches or co-coaches in the following divisions: 5-6 downtown, 5-6 Mendenhall Valley, 7-9 Mendenhall Valley, 12-13 downtown/Mendenhall Valley combined and 14-18 downtown/Mendenhall Valley combined. • Women's Classic Basketball League - The Women's Classic Basketball League is for women who enjoy basketball and want to play for fun, on an organized team, but with women who are a "little older," new to the game or have less time due to kids, jobs or other commitments. Aggressive play is strongly discouraged in this league.

Registration forms are due by Oct. 24. Pre-season practices will begin in November, followed by games which will be played through Feb. 4. Teams play once a week on Wednesday for a total of 10 games for the season. Cost is $47.25 per player, which includes tax and covers the costs of the player fee and a share of the team fee, plus use of a numbered jersey for each player. Players can register with Parks and Rec. Staff and volunteers will put teams together. • JDHS turf field available - Community Schools is offering the turf field by Juneau-Douglas High School for community use. Charge for reserving the field is $5 per hour for nonprofit youth groups, $10 per hour for nonprofit adult groups and $15 per hour for all other groups. • Juneau Skating Club - The Juneau Skating Club's first session of the year begins Sept. 19. Classes meet once a week for six weeks. Group lessons meet either Friday nights 6:30-7:30 p.m. or Saturday mornings 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Hockey skills classes start Sept. 21 at 10:30 a.m. Registration forms and other information are available at or at the rink. • Ultimate Frisbee Players of Southeast Alaska - The Ultimate Frisbee Players of Southeast Alaska will hold league play will take place 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays and Sundays at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Field. • Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School court rentals - Community Schools has court rental times available, starting at 9 a.m., on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Cost is $20 per hour, per court, which must be paid at the time of rental. Info: 780-2075.

• Basketball and volleyball open gyms - Community Schools is sponsoring open gyms a Thunder Mountain High School for basketball and volleyball Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays through October. Time is 6:30-8:30 p.m. and cost is $3 per person, per session. Participants are asked to bring their own basketball or volleyball. For more information, call 780-2075.

• Evening masters swimming program - The Augustus Brown pool hosts a twice-weekly evening masters swimming program. The program will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is designed to promote and improve the physical and mental well-being of adults age 19 and older. • Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Rec Hikes Hotline. Bring plenty of food and water, and wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Info: Hotline, 586-0428.

• Mount Jumbo Gym rentals - Parks and Recreation is accepting reservations for rentals of the Mount Jumbo Gym. The gym is open for rental from until Dec. 30. Rentals can be made noon-1 p.m. and 6-10 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturdays and noon-10 p.m. Sundays. Cost is $30 per hour. Terry Miller gym also is available for rent. Info: 586-5226.

• Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee.
