This coming Saturday, the Juneau-Douglas High School football team will play East Anchorage in JDHS' first-ever state football championship game.
This is a thrilling end to a great season, and is a tribute to the players, coaches, parents, the Juneau Youth Football League and its board led by President Karen Lawfer.
Everyone in the state should know that the JYFL funds the team and its youth leagues, which requires purchasing airplane tickets, housing visiting teams and paying their own way to Anchorage. These players must pay activity fees, hire out their labor, and sell raffle tickets and ads in the team's program to fund this program. Now it means paying out thousands more to play in the championship game.
No matter what happens Saturday, I am so proud of this team, those that support it and this community.
