Juneau-Douglas with a host of all-conference selections

Crimson Bears with 14 first-team selections

In addition to earning a trip to the state championship game, the Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears also received a number of individual accolades prior to Saturday's game.

The Crimson Bears occupied 14 spots on the All-Railbelt Conference first team and earned offense and defensive player of the year honors, along with coach of the year and assistant coach of the year.

In his first year on the sidelines, Bill Chalmers was voted conference coach of the year by his peers. Chalmers has defeated all comers in Alaska and his Crimson Bears finished the regular season on top of the Anchorage Daily News/State Coaches Poll.

JDHS offensive coordinator Rich Sjoroos captured the conference assistant coach of the year for his high-flying offense.

Junior quarterback Chris Hinkley was named offensive player of the year and all-conference quarterback, while senior Josh Lehauli was named defensive player of the year.

Lehauli was also named all-conference fullback, outside linebacker and return specialists.

Tres Saldivar earned all-conference first-team honors as a running back while Ryan Fagerstrom was named first-team wide receiver and defensive back.

Joe Monagle and Justin Behrends were named first-team offensive linemen, Dylan Ashe earned top kicker and defensive back honors, while Brian Maller garnered first-team inside linebacker accolades.

Sophomore Faifo Levale was named first-team defensive end, while Lane Miller took home honors for first-ream defensive tackle.

Angelo Katasse was named second-team wide receiver, Will Tonsgard was second-team offensive tackle, and Pat Kohan was second-team defensive end.

Other second-team all-conference selections included defensive end Pat Kohan, defensive tackle Behrends, defensive tackle Will Tonsgard and outside linebacker Saldivar.

Juneau-Douglas also received three honorable selection mentions as defensive back Kanaan Bausler, center Donny Peterson and offensive guard Alex Robinson earned kudos.
