Age: 54.

Juneau resident: 32 years. Lifelong Alaskan, born and raised in Seward.

Family: Husband, Ron; children, John, 30, and Kristen, 27.

Hobbies: Gardening, scrapbooking, cardmaking, baking, hiking and walking her dog. In 1992, she started Beat the Odds in Juneau.

Occupation: Retired from the Juneau School District, worked 19 years with special needs preschoolers.

Kind: Breast cancer.

Years surviving: 18 years and two years.

Diagnosed: February 1991 and February 2007.

Quote: "I want to encourage women to get their mammograms. Both my cancers were caught early because of routine mammograms. Early detection is the key. I've experienced that twice. My outlook on life now is, live each day to the fullest, start living your dreams, who knows what will happen tomorrow."
