Title and firm: Co-owner, Mt. Juneau Inn.

Services: The Mt. Juneau Inn bed and breakfast, in operation since 1994 by Karen and Phil Greeney, is situated at the foot of Mount Juneau overlooking Gastineau Channel. There are 15 rooms including guest rooms, suites and a handicapped-accessible room with a choice of private or shared baths, and three parlors, one with a fireplace and two with televisions and videocassette recorders. The Greeneys recently doubled their inn space when they renovated an adjoining building. A new parlor was designed for small weddings, holiday parties, business meetings and family reunions.

"We can accommodate food, meetings and lodging," Karen said.

Biographical information: Karen and Phil lived in San Francisco and traveled the world but they'd always been most fond of Alaska. Karen had long wanted to own a bed-and-breakfast.

"This has been my passion forever," she said. "We flew all around (Alaska) and decided on Juneau. We flew home, gave our two weeks' notice and were back here in a month."

Family: Karen's oldest daughter, Jennifer, lives in San Francisco; her youngest daughter, Gwen Cornelius, who is finishing work on her teaching certificate, works for the inn during the summers. Phil has two children, Jeff and China Lee, both of whom live in Southern California. They have three grandchildren and a fourth on the way.

Notable: The Mt. Juneau Inn was featured in the Oct. 9, 2000, issue of Time Magazine in its 'Time Select Travel' section. The Greeneys' friendly dog, Leo, a MacKenzie River husky, got top billing but the article called the inn "eminently cozy" and added, "Homemade breakfasts include local delicacies like fireweed honey and salmonberry jam."

Quotable: Unless you're rich and can contract out jobs, you will become a jack-of-all-trades when you take on a bed and breakfast. "You're the chief cook, bottle washer and marketer," Karen said.

Employees: Three full-time workers.

Contact: Call 463-5855 or stop by the inn at 1801 Old Glacier Highway. The Internet address is www.mtjuneauinn.com.
