Mystery bird

Don't laugh. Here in Sitka, when my husband and I were doing our volunteer stint cleaning up the local Halibut Point Recreation Site, we sighted two birds that this article (Empire, Oct. 15) describes. They were powerful, larger than full-grown female eagles, and it puzzled us. This happened in late August.
