Disabled workers' programs are succeeding

Thanks for reporting on the disabled workers event. Disabled people face many hurdles in finding employment in Alaska and America.

Access Alaska Inc. has a WIA Youth Grant which follows the high school/high tech model. HS/HT is for youth with disabilities, ages 14-21, in school and out of school. HS/HT encourages these youths to consider science, engineering and technology careers.

This year we've had kids enter paid internships, travel to a leadership conference, visit the Fairbanks Job Center and participate in the Alaska Summer Reserach Academy at the UAF campus.

This program is working because these youth have marketable skills/knowledge that employers are willing to pay for.
