Local Catholics will hold pilgrimage

JUNEAU - The Catholic Dioceses of Juneau will hold a nine-mile pilgrimage Sunday afternoon, with participants saying the rosary, including the latest addition by Pope John Paul II.

Participants are scheduled to gather for "A Pilgrimage with Mary, Our Model Disciple" at the Cathedral of the Nativity, 415 Sixth Street at about 12:30 p.m. The event will culminate a weekend of activities dedicating the day chapel of St. Paul's Catholic Church as a shrine.

It is expected to end at St. Paul's at about 5:30 p.m.

From Fifth and Gold streets, the group will proceed along Fifth toward the footbridge at Calhoun Street and over it to 12th Street.

From 12th, participants will walk to Glacier Avenue and continue to Glacier Highway toward Salmon Creek.

From there, they will walk on Glacier Highway behind Twin Lakes toward Vanderbilt Road and on to Anka Street. From Anka, they will walk to the Fred Meyer Store and follow the bike path running along Egan Drive.

At Mendenhall Loop Road, they will turn right on the bike path to Atlin Drive, where they turn right again into St. Paul's.

McKeen and Brown elected to board

Members of Capital Community Broadcasting, Inc. (CCBI) have elected two members to the seven-person board which oversees the operation of KTOO-FM & TV.

Mary Alice McKeen and Benjamin Brown were elected by mail ballot to serve three-year terms on the board.

The results were announced at CCBI's annual membership on Oct. 15.

McKeen is an Appeals Officer for the National Marine Fisheries Service and is heard regularly on "Courtwatch" on KTOO's Morning Edition. She was elected to her second three-year term.

Brown is an attorney and a frequent volunteer music host on KTOO-FM. He was elected to a three-year term after being appointed last year to fill out the remaining term of a Board member who moved from Juneau.

McKeen and Brown join Gary Rohweder, Todd Antioquia, Dawn Pisel-Davis, Mary Lou Gerbi and Beth Weigel on the Board.

Officers will be elected at the Board's meeting in November.
