Deborah Hopkinson to host historical workshops

Author Deborah Hopkinson will host two workshops at the downtown library this weekend.

Hopkinson will present "Bringing History to Life," an evening of stories at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 22. Topics will include "How apples were brought to the west," "How Clara fashioned a map of quilts" and "How they built the Empire State Building." Hopkinson's books will be available for purchase and the author will be available for signings.

A writing workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Oct. 23. Hopkinson will guide adults and teens in how to bring their stories to life.

Hopkinson is the author of more than 40 books including short fiction and historical fiction. Her work has received honors including the Golden Kite Award, the American Library Associateion Notable Book Award and the Jane Addams Honor Book Award. For more information, call 586-0434.
