"Monsters and Outcasts" is the title of a threepart film series at the University of Alaska Southeast. The films are free and open to the public.
"Frankenstein," the original 1931 classic with Boris Karloff, will show at 5 p.m. Friday. All three will be shown at the UAS Student Activities Center near Auke Bay.
"Bram Stoker's Dracula," Francis Ford Coppola's 1992 film, will show Oct. 26; and Roman Polanski's 1979 film "Tess" will show Nov. 9.
The film series is part of two courses taught this fall by UAS Assistant Professor Alexis Easley Victorian Literature and the Politics of Sexuality, and Introduction to Literary Studies. A special topic of the course reading is monsters in literature.
"There will be a brief introduction to each film. Then we'll watch the film. Then there will be a brief discussion afterward," Easley said.
She said the activities center has a new large-screen video projection system and a new sound system. The atmosphere is casual with couches and informal seating.
