Three performing artists have combined their talents for an evening of theater and music next week at the Goldtown Nickelodeon.
"Doing What We Do" features original work by Larry Tucker, Jason Messing, both of Juneau, and Thor Leif Erikson of Oregon. Each will take a turn on stage beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24.
Tucker will perform a theater piece called "Lorenzo's Rant" in two parts "Texas Beauty Queen" and "The GirlyPoo from Idahoo." Guitarist Messing will play original acoustic folk rock. Erikson, a friend of Tucker, will perform an original theatrical work called "Pieces." The entire show will last about an hour and a half.
An aspiring writer, Tucker said he's been writing creatively for years but never really found a form for his work. He took a performance class last summer at Perseverance Theatre and said it inspired him to apply his writing talents to creating theatrical performance art pieces. Several positive performing experiences this fall in Oregon encouraged him to produce a show in Juneau.
Tucker organized a daylong musical event several years ago at the Jackie Renninger Skate Park. He's worked with youth and wanted the proceeds to benefit the city's youth center because he thinks it plays an important role in the community.
Tucker produced the project, which is sponsored by the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council. Admission is $5 and proceeds will benefit the Zach Gordon Youth Center.
