In your Wednesday paper (Empire, Oct. 6) there was an advertisement by the NRA headed with a picture of a standard poodle in a rather badly mangled show clip with the caption, "That dog don't hunt." I don't mind the NRA disseminating misinformation on the subject of gun control - that is, after all, their business. But I do object when they spread misinformation about dogs.
Standard poodles were developed as hunting dogs, and their frou-frou-looking clip protects their joints and chest while they swim in cold water, while leaving their hindquarters free to propel them powerfully. They have performed with hunters in competitive trials and in sport hunting.
So you see, that dog does hunt, and hunts well. Similarly, John Kerry will protect our rights and our constitutional freedom, unlike his opponent, who in the name of the so-called "Patriot Act" has attempted to erode our liberties.
