FAIRBANKS - Fairbanks is gearing up to host the convention of the Alaska Federation of Natives.
The annual meeting will feature political forums as well as discussions on topics that affect Alaska Native life.
The convention formally begins Thursday.
One highlight will be a discussion on health and wellness featuring researchers and a representative from the state Suicide Prevention Council.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports much of the convention revolves around the theme of challenges facing villages, such as communication and transportation infrastructure.
Candidates for U.S. Senate and governor will engage in forums Friday afternoon.
