Saturday, Oct. 21

• Juneau Soccer Club fall litter pick-up - The Juneau Soccer Club will hold its annual fall litter pick up on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. to noon. Players and parents should meet at the Twin Lakes parking lot. Gloves, vests and garbage bags will be provided. Food and drink will be on hand at the conclusion of the event at Twin Lakes. • Juneau-Douglas High School volleyball - The Crimson Bears close out the regular season with a pair of matches against Southeast Conference rival Ketchikan. Both matches will take place the JDHS gym. Times TBA.

• Captial City Soccer open soccer - Capital City Soccer will hold adult open soccer days on Saturdays at the Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym starting Oct. 14 until Dec. 30. • Juneau Parks and Recreation Adult Basketball Scorekeepers needed - Juneau Parks and Recreation is looking for basketball scorekeepers for the 2006-07 Ordway Basketball season. The season is scheduled to begin Nov. 12 and will run through the second week of February. Scorekeepers will be paid. Info: Juneau Parks and Recreation, 586-5226.

• Juneau Parks and Recreation Youth Indoor Soccer registration - Roster spots are still available for indoor soccer players ages 8-18. There are weeknight practices and Saturday games from Sept. 30 to Dec. 9. Info: 586-5226.

• Juneau Parks and Recreation Adult Ordway Basketball Team Registration - Ordway Basketball team registration will take place Thursday, Oct. 19, at 6 p.m. at the Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School Commons. Late registration will take place Oct. 20 at the Juneau Parks and Registration office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. League play begins Nov. 12 and will run through the second week of February. • Women's Classic Basketball League - Preseason practice begin in November for the Women's Classic Basketball League. The league is designed for women who enjoy basketball or are new to the game but looking for a non-aggressive league. Games will be played through Jan. 31, once a week on Wednesdays for a total of 10 games. Cost is $47.25 per player and includes use of jersey. Registration forms are due Oct. 27. • Juneau-Douglas Basketball Officials Association meetings - The Juneau-Douglas Basketball Officials Association meetings will be every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Room C109 at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Interested basketball referees for the adult Ordway City League or high school officiating must attend every Wednesday. Ordway begins play on Nov. 12. • Alaska Day Basketball Clinic - Registration is open for middle school and high school students to attend University of Alaska Southeast's Alaska Day Basketball Clinic over the school break from Oct. 18-20. • Perspectives on Parenting Student Athletes - University of Alaksa Southeast is hosting this free talk from Jerry Krause, Director of Men's Basketball Operations from Gonzaga University, from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. in room 116 of the UAS Student Rec Center on Wednesday, Oct. 18. • Start Smart Program - The Start Smart Sports Development Program is for boys and girls ages 4-5 to prepare them for organized sports without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Parents work with their child to learn basic skills such as throwing, catching, kicking and batting for sports like soccer, baseball, etc. It is a six-week program, one hour per week on Saturdays at Mt. Jumbo Gym from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. running from Oct. 21 to Nov. 18. Fee is $25 and each child will receive a t-shirt, workbook and a participant manual. Register at www.juneau.org/parksrec. • Co-ed Master's Soccer League - The Co-Ed Master's Soccer League is for experienced men and women soccer players over the age of 30. There will be no formal teams and no referees. • Treadwell Arena ice time and activities - The Treadwell Arena opens with ice at 8 a.m. on Sept. 5. The arena will be taking ice rental reservations. • Mt. Jumbo Gym Preschool Open Gym - The Mt. Jumbo Preschool Open Gym starts Sept. 5. This gym is open to the pblic on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to noon for all children ages 1-6. Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at a maximum ration of four children to one adult. Play equipment and tumbling mats are provided. There is a $1 per child cost for the program. Punchcards are available at the gym or the Juneau Parks and Recreation office. Cash or chek payment can be made at the gym - no bills over $20 please. Info: 586-5226, Myiia_Whistler@ci.juneau.ak.us.
