Sound off on the important issues at
School: Juneau-Douglas High School.
Art of choice: "I like drawing and painting and mixed media."
In the works: "I am working on a piece right now using watercolor, pastel and spray paint. My concentration in the AP studio art class is experimenting with the ruins at Sandy Beach. I am working from photos that I have taken."
Reflections: "I remember playing around with paints when I was very small, and I enjoyed the E.L. art classes starting in 3rd grade.
Future: "I plan to defer college for a year and work abroad. When I'm in college I plan to work toward a career related to art, maybe advertising, or communications through art."
Activites: Soccer, national honor society, student government and high school musicals and other dramas.
You should know: "Michaela's friends say that she is also a very talented piano player."
Her art teacher Tom Manning says: "Michaela has really taken off in her art classes this year. While she has always been an awesome art student, she has decided to make art a major focus in her senior year at JD High. Michaela was able to get into two studio art classes including the zero hour AP (Advanced Placement) Studio (meets at 7 a.m.). Her AP Portfolio is well under way and since her subject is the Sandy Beach area, you might catch her out there taking photos or doing field sketches to use in her project. She decided on a mixed media approach to create the images and the first few drawings have been inspiring to all of us in the Studio class. Besides a full class schedule Michaela has also chosen to paint a large wall mural at the high school. This mural also depicts Sandy Beach and is well under way.
