JUNEAU - The state's unemployment rate saw a slight drop last month.
State labor economist Dan Robinson said the rate in September was 6.8 percent, down one-tenth of a percentage point from August.
Robinson said Alaska added 1,600 payroll jobs in the last year.
The bright spot for Alaska continues to be the oil and gas industry, which added 1,300 jobs in that time. Retail added about 100 jobs, but construction is down about 200 positions.
There were 22,274 people unemployed in the state in September. That is an increase of about 500 people from August, and about 2,000 more than this time last year.
