Age: 45.

Juneau resident: Since June 2006.

Family: Husband, Ken; daughter, Jessica.

Hobbies: Hiking, biking, running, snowshoeing and traveling to all ends of the earth.

Occupation: Administrator, Legislative Affairs Agency.

Kind: Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC), stage 3b-4a - a rare, aggressive form of breast cancer.

Years surviving: Eight months.

Diagnosed: April 2008.

Quote: "I am alive. Everyday I look around me and see people who have problems far greater than mine and yet they confront life with courage and purpose. And even though I have been facing my own demons of battling IBC, it makes me stop and realize how small my worries are. Through this journey with IBC I have learned that I should try much harder to be happy and be more tolerant, understanding, and caring toward others. It has encouraged me to believe in my own abilities, but most of all to be thankful for all I have everyday of my life because - I am alive."
